Crieff Squash Club success

The Central District Junior A Squash Tournament was held at the weekend at Dunblane and in the Bridge Of Allan.

It attracted 80 entrants to 10 divisions. Crieff celebrated four finalists.

In Division 10, Crieff player Ben Orr defeated club mates Finlay Martin and Findlay Lennie to reach the final where he faced James Taylor, losing 3-0.

Findlay finished third and Finlay sixth.

Meanwhile, Maddie Orr found herself in a division of eight girls. She just lost out to Katie Gregson MacLeod in a four-setter.

In Divsion 8, Christopher Martin had a comfortable route to the final but met his match in Fraser McCann from Newlands.

Jack Orr had a tight finish in Division 5 for 5th/6th position against Nathan Sharp, from Aberdeen.

The first two games went to tie breaks, one a piece, with Nathan just having the edge.

Crieff’s last finalist of the day was Claire Gadsby and her improved court movement earned her the Division 3 title.

Her brother Sean finished in sixth position after a match with Elspeth Young of Kinross. Rory Stewart, in the Premier League, had a disappointing start, facing Jason Lang from David Lloyd Renfrew.

Rory won his opening game, only to see Jason win the next. With the match poised at two all, the deciding game went to a tie break, which Rory lost 12-10.

He went on to win his remaining two matches, however, playing his best squash of the tournament versus Calum Johnston of Dalgetty Bay, clinching the match 13-11 in the fifth.

Claire and Rory will play in the Irish Junior Open in November and the Nations Test Series in December, in the Under 18 squad.

Crieff Squash Club ladies play on Monday evenings, family nights are on Fridays and the men meet on Sunday evening at Crieff Hydro Squash Courts.
