HOME favourite Alistair Wood toasted victory in the Highland Spring Junior Masters, the biggest grassroots golf event in Scotland, at Auchterarder Golf Club.
Run in conjunction with ClubGolf, Scotland’s national junior golf development programme and assisted by the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association, the Highland Spring Junior Masters is free-to-enter for boys and girls aged under 16.
The Big County club hosted the first of the four qualifying events, with an oversubscribed boys' draw of 79.
Top of the pile was 16-year-old Alistair Wood.
The 7.5 handicapper finished top on 44 points, ahead of Greg Cumming (Lenzie), Fraser Laird (Glenbervie) and Liam Duncan (Kirkaldy) all sharing 43 points.
“The course was in good condition and I just played a steady round,” said Wood, who is largely coached by his golf-enthusiast father, and played this event a year ago, missing out on the Gleneagles Grand Final for the top 12 boys and girls from each regional qualifier.
“I’m very happy to get to the final, very happy that I’ve improved.
“I’ve never played at Gleneagles and it’s exciting to be playing there.”
The Grand Final at Gleneagles takes place on its famous Queen's Course on Sunday, October 7.
