Comrie Rovers top of the table
COMRIE Rovers celebrated their promotion to the first division of the Perthshire Amateur League with a players’ barbeque on Saturday.
The event topped off a good week for the Rovers, following their 7-1 win over Star of Atholl in the Consolation Cup after going down a goal early on.
The team played some good football to see them through to tonight’s (Thursday’s) quarter-final away to Vale of Atholl.
The club’s victory in the league is a fitting end to the season in the Rovers’ 40th anniversary year as an amateur club.
Committee member Alan McGregor has been involved with the club for all that time. He told the Herald: “The boys have done really well this season. The club has been promoted to the first division before but it’s a long time ago.
“The current team is one of the best we have had for a while.
“Thanks must go to manager Peter Reilly, who has done a good job with the team, and to clubman Willie Sinclair for all his hard work during the season.
“We are always on the lookout for new sponsors and it would be great to see some more come on board as we look forward to playing in the first division next season.”
