Perth Villareal 1
Auchterarder Primrose 6
AUCHTERARDER moved into the last 16 of the Ashleigh Cup on Saturday, where they will visit local rivals Comrie Rovers.
The Lang Toon lads were on top from the very beginning against Second Division Villareal and it was no surprise when they opened the scoring on eight minutes. A good turn and shot from a tight angle saw Patterson notch his 18th of the season.
It was 2-0 four minutes later when Laing, making only his second start for the club, unleashed a shot from just inside the box into the bottom corner of the net.
A combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping saw the score stay at 2-0 until five minutes into the second half, when a poor header across goal from a home defender fell to the feet of Patterson for an easy tap-in.
Five minutes later it was 4-0 after a corner was met by Innes for his first of the season.
Primrose were reduced to 10 men midway through the half when Burke received a second yellow for persistent fouling after stupidly being booked earlier for dissent.
This did not change the flow of the game, however, as minutes later Martin Maher scored from a penalty. Two minutes after that the home side were also awarded a penalty, which was expertly converted off the inside of the post.
Minutes later substitute Cunningham’s cross from the edge of the box curled into the top corner of the net.
A decent performance from Auchterarder but they will have to up it when they come up against stiffer opposition.
Primrose have released goalkeeper Yurdakol, who has joined Second Division Coupar Angus in the hope of a regular game. The club wished him all the best.
AUCHTERARDER: Reid, Boyle, Walker, Emerson, McKay, Laing, (Robertson), Burke, Innes, Patterson, (Cunningham), Wilson, M Maher.
