Rovers bring home points from Perth

Perth Villareal 0 Comrie Rovers 4

THE home side went on the attack time and again but the Comrie defence held firm and Raymond Stevenson pulled off a couple of great saves.

It took until the half-hour before the deadlock was broken. David Sinclair floated a great free-kick into the area, which was nodded on by Kieran O’Donnell to Peter Reilly at the back post. He smashed it home to make the score 1-0.

Villareal hit back quickly and Stevenson pulled off a great save at the feet of an attacker.

In the second half the home side again started the stronger but O’Donnell and Muir held firm and broke up attack after attack.

Alex Wylie started a great move which saw Reilly clear on the left. He broke into the box and squared the ball to Clunie, who smashed it home from close range to make the score 2-0.

Within 10 minutes Rovers were three up. Clunie forced his way through the defence and won a 50/50 with a defender before closing in on goal and smashing it home.

Five minutes later Ward raced through on goal. A Villareal defender caught up with him just inside the box and clattered into him from behind but the referee waved away the Rovers’ penalty appeal.

Five minutes later it was 4-0 after MacLean floated in a perfect corner to O’Donnell at the front post and he bundled the ball over the line.

Rovers had another penalty claim denied but ran out worthy winners.

Alex Murdoch and Shaun Ward played well out of position in left and right midfield respectively. Both ran themselves into the ground for the team.

COMRIE: Stevenson, Sinclair, Muir, O’Donnell, Wylie, Ward, Clunie, Cruickshanks, Murdoch, MacLean and Reilly.

Rovers faced Roselea with a depleted squad on Saturday and ended up on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline, with Raymond Stevenson named man of the match.
