THE girls’ rugby squad from Auchterarder entered the U15 girls Festival of Rugby, which was held at Murrayfield last weekend in support of the Emirates Airline IRB Sevens.
The event involved two leagues of four, with all teams playing each other in the league. The top two at the end of the competition will play a showcase match for girls’ rugby on the main stadium pitch at Murrayfield before the International semi-finals.
The U15 girls went unbeaten throughout the league, including success over a very strong Langholm side. Most of the teams in the competition were from established rugby clubs and it was an immense performance from the girls that they were able to win in such a strong field.
The Auchterarder girls were crowned the Champions of the tournament for being unbeaten and also scored highly in the competition under the fair play awards.
As winners they took to the Murrayfield pitch to play a showpiece match against the runners-up who were a very strong Edinburgh Wanderers club side. This match finished as a draw, but again the Strathearn team were playing against a side that had been together for three years.
This is yet another hugely successful tournament that the girls have entered and competed well at. All players were a credit to the school, and are looking forward to next weekend when the travel to Inverness for the Northern Sevens.
