Brazilian woman killed by husband's coffin

A 67-YEAR-OLD woman in Brazil was tragically killed on the way to her husband's funeral - by his coffin.

The accident happened when the hearse she was travelling in to a cemetery in the town of Alvorada was involved in a car crash. The hearse was hit by an Alfa Romeo, propelling the coffin forward, causing it to hit the woman in the back of the head, police officials have said.

The accident also caused injury to the driver of the Alfa Romeo, who was trapped in the vehicle for nearly an hour before being taken to hospital for treatment and observation, the driver of the hearse and the deceased man's son.

The woman, named as Marciana Silva Barcelos, was killed instantly, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
