Crieff joiner on fundraising campaign with Still Game star

Crieff’s Gavin Brock has organised a star-studded charity night in a bid to help raise more than £2000 for Alzheimer Scotland in 2013.

Entitled ‘An Evening of Entertainment’, the 29-year-old joiner’s event takes place in Academy Hall on Saturday, February 16, and will feature Scottish actor and comedian Paul Riley and comedy magician Steven Dick.

Paul is best known for his role as Winston Ingram in the hit Scottish sitcoms Still Game and Chewin’ the Fat, while stand-up star Steven is sure to have the audience in stitches as well, with his mix of magic and comedy.

Gavin initially decided to enter this year’s London Marathon to raise money for the charity, which offers care, information and support to people with dementia and their carers, but since then his money-making ambitions have grown.

Plans are also in place for an auction on the night, with lots including signed memorabilia from Manchester United; Segway hire for four at Crieff Hydro; a tour of Celtic Park for four and a signed print from the Red Arrows.

He is already well on the way to his £2000 goal after raising £645 at a bingo tea at the RBLS Clubrooms.

A Vale of Earn FC committee member, Gavin helped organise the club’s successful Sportsman’s Dinner last year. He thought a similar event open to all would go down well in the Strath and is keen that residents don’t miss out on the chance to buy tickets.

He told the Herald: “My grandparents John and Ina Jack both suffered from Alzheimer’s and I saw how hard it was for the family to deal with. I’ve been involved in fundraising since I was young, from hosting race nights for Vale of Earn to rattling tins for the Royal British Legion Scotland.

“Hosting something like this also gives people something to look forward to in the town.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has sponsored me already and all the local businesses that have donated prizes.

“I think the ‘Evening of Entertainment’ will be a sell-out event and I don’t want anyone to be disappointed so people need to book now to get a ticket.”
