ELLIS McDowell was the winner of the competition to design a logo for the community group Building Bridges and won an £100 prize.
Her entry was selected by the judges from an outstanding range provided by 70 other students at Strathearn Community Campus. The original drawing provided by Ellis was refined by graphic designers in Stirling to produce the finished version.
The competition provided the opportunity for Building Bridges to once again work with the campus to heighten its profile and the profile of the various projects it has undertaken over the past two years.
With an established befriending project, a social club, a disability swim club all successfully launched, the group also recently introduced the graphic-based bus timetable for the number 45 town bus which is available at the hospital, library, council offices and Sweeneys, the service operator.
With funding recently gained through the Scottish Community Foundation and Comic Relief, the group is now working on three new projects, a lunch club, a community drivers’ initiative and a local respite opportunity, all of these being developed in liaison with local businesses and voluntary organisations.
On Saturday, the group held another very successful focus event at the campus, covering the provision of respite care in Strathearn. With families from throughout Strathearn meeting respite providers from Scotland and England the forum provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views and develop new services.
Building Bridges would like to thank everyone who attended with a particular thank you to the local Soroptimists and the staff at the campus, without whose help the event couldn’t have been such a success.
