“ONE of the best shows I have attended this year,” was the verdict of a judge adjudicating at the Strathearn Horticultural Show on Saturday.
The last show in the area’s calendar may have been down on exhibits but the displays were certainly not lacking in quality.
Gladioli, begonias and fuchsias dominated one half of the hall while vegetables of Brobdingnagian proportions were laid out in artistic groups at the front, and the produce table was filled with mouth-watering home baking and jams.
Prizes were presented by Reverend Tuckley of Crieff Baptist Church who was rewarded in turn with a giant tube of Smarties.
Speaking to the Herald afterwards, Society President Kathryn Buchanan said: “Despite the disappointing weather we still had a very good show of flowers, fruit and vegetables although we were a bitlighter on flowers this year.
“Overall, however, the standard of exhibits on display was very high with the children excelling themselves as usual in their section.”
