Auchterarder residents think on how to spend £200K swimming pool fund

LANG Toon residents are being asked to put their “swimming” caps on to think of ways to use the town’s swimming pool fund.

Jennifer Haldane, chairman of the swimming pool committee, told the Strathearn Herald last week: “The collections for the swimming pool fund in Auchterarder began in the 1980s and it is currently sitting at just over £200,000.

One idea has been that the money should be transferred into the newly formed Development Trust. However, Jennifer explained that this was not possible.

“The constitution states that the money has to go towards a scheme which will satisfy the needs of the whole community, from babies to senior citizens,” she added.

“This prevents it from being put directly into the Development Trust as it receives applications for specific things which could not be guaranteed to benefit all.

“Another suggestion is that the money could be used to create a fitness room in the Aytoun Hall which could be accessed by all.

“Some discussion has taken place with the ALRA but the proposal is still very much in its early stages and no definite plans have been made.

“If anyone in the local community has any suggestions for the fund I would be delighted to hear from them.”
