Afternoon of gala fun at MasRosty Park

FOR an afternoon of good old-fashioned fun why not head to the MacRosty Park on July 12 and participate in Crieff Community Initiative’s summer gala day?

Now in its second year, the gala is both an opportunity to raise funds for the town’s Christmas lighting displays and a time to relax and enjoy yourself in one of Crieff’s best loved parks.

This year the CCI team are planning an even bigger event with plenty of attractions to suit all the family.

Once again they have teamed up with Walter Park, who will be bringing along a good selection of his fun fair rides.

If a more traditional activity is more your cup of tea why not take part in the throw the wellie, beat the goalie or golf competitions?

Live music will be provided by local pipers and drummers, folk group Tickled Pink and Gringo. If you would like to play in the pipe band contact Owen Sweeney on (01764) 650143 or 07909 807851.

The RAF’s Police Dog Display team are also booked for the day.

Various stalls will line the park, including cake and candy, tombola and burgers, and this year the CCI have linked up with the Giraffe Cafe, who are running the pavilion and have agreed to set up two or three stalls of their own.

A limited number of stands are available for local organisations to run. If you would like to book one contact either Stephen Rodger at the Pretoria Bar or Robert Ferguson at Burgess and Gibson (a small charge will apply for the use of the stall).

Stephen said: “After last year’s successful and happy gala we hope that locals will once again join us in MacRosty Park for a fun-filled afternoon.

“The Christmas lights are an important feature in the town over the festive period and after last year’s successful fundraisers, including the gala day and Christmas ball, we have been given a good start.

“However, we do need the town’s continued support to allow us to keep adding to the lighting displays and we would like to thank all of the locals and businesses who donated in any way last year.

“This year we plan to erect a number of new lights as well as refurbish many of the existing displays. We also hope to invest in some new decorations and lighting for the main tree in James Square.

“Donations to the Christmas light fund can be given all year round to either Robert or myself or come along and show your support on gala Sunday.”

The CCI’s summer gala day extravaganza will take place on Sunday, July 12, from 12.30pm to 4pm.

Their next event will be a ‘wear something tartan’ ceilidh on Saturday, August 15 (the night before the Highland Games) in the Academy Hall. There will be dancing to the Glenside Ceilidh Band and a haggis supper. Tickets are priced £10, available from the Pretoria Bar or Burgess and Gibson.
