CRIEFF in Leaf Association’s open night on October 30, saw friends, supporters and prizewinners assemble at Crieff Hotel for the annual Community Garden Competition prize-giving.
Roseanne Cunningham MSP, presented the awards and the evening included a video presentation featuring the Competition Gardens, the Orchid Festival at Scone Palace, Drummond Castle Gala Day and the floral displays in Crieff during 2008.
Speaking afterwards, Ms Cunningham praised the group’s commitment to the community. She said: “The voluntary contribution of time and effort is what really makes a community work and makes it a better place to live so I have a huge amount of respect and admiration for everybody involved with Crieff in Leaf.”
Summarising the year’s activities Crieff in Leaf’s Wilma Arnott told the Herald: “This year has been a good one for the group in spite of the wet summer. Summer and winter planting continued in the town with additional planting at Bridgend Garden and the refurbishing of the Dalvreck Plot.
“The hard work of Crieff in Leaf’s volunteers was rewarded with a Gold award from Take a Pride in Perthshire and a Silver award from Beautiful Scotland. This would not have been possible without the help and support of the committee and volunteers who have worked tirelessly throughout the year.
And, at a reception in Perth & Kinross Council’s Civic Lounge on Monday evening Crieff in Leaf were amongst Perthshire’s Bloom Committees honoured in a speech given by Provost John Hulbert.
