Company’s top award

HIGHLAND Spring has scooped ‘Best Environmental/Sustainability Initiative’ at the 2008 Water Innovation Awards as the first bottled water producer to pilot the groundbreaking Carbon Action Plan (CAP).

CAP is a new global voluntary compliance scheme which was launched to provide beverage companies with a common scheme for carbon footprint measurement.

Highland Spring took the gold award for leading the CAP trial and picked up the silver award in Best Marketing category for its Protected Land campaign, which promotes the protection of its catchment area accredited organic by the Soil Association.

The innovative Carbon Action Plan programme was developed as a not-for-profit partnership by Zenith International, an internationally recognised food and drink industry consultancy and NSF International, a global food safety and standards organisation.

Commenting on the accolade, Sally Stanley, marketing director of Highland Spring said: “We are delighted to receive this award for the best environmental initiative because Highland Spring has been built on natural sustainability for nearly three decades. We have a long term objective to continuously reduce our environmental impact and through CAP we have made a commitment to reduce our carbon emissions over time.”
