Appeal in shopkeeper murder probe

Police have released a photograph of a shopkeeper who was stabbed in the greengrocer's where he worked as they continue their hunt for his killer.

Javaid Ali was attacked two weeks ago in Sunshine Grocers in Green Road, Paisley, Renfrewshire.

He died in the town's Royal Alexandra Hospital on Friday night.

The 48-year-old was married and had three sons.

Police said it was a "mindless" attack and they are treating his death as murder.

Officers are reviewing CCTV and carrying out door-to-door inquiries as they investigate the incident, which happened on June 15 at about 5pm.

They are also looking at leads gathered during a stop-and-interview operation last Friday, when more than 160 people provided information to police.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of incident that day, particularly between Fulbar Road and Lounsdale Road on the Elderslie to Paisley cycle path.

Detective Chief Inspector Duncan Sloan said: "Mr Ali was a family man, married with three sons, and our thoughts are with his family at this time.

"We have still to establish a motive for this mindless attack but our focus remains on finding whoever is responsible".
