New project takes aim at food waste

First Minister Alex Salmond is to step up efforts to tackle the 20 million tonnes of annual food waste with the launch of a recycling project.

The scheme turns items such as leftover food, coffee grounds, cups and paper towels collected from businesses and restaurants in the North East into compost.

The Commercial Food Waste Collection Service, run by Keenan Recycling, is officially launched by Mr Salmond in Aberdeen.
