Retail sales 'at lowest level'

The election and an earlier Easter were blamed for sales figures being at their worst for a decade.

Like-for-like sales in April were 2% lower than in the same month last year, the weakest performance since March 2000.

The latest Scottish Retail Consortium KPMG Scottish Retail Sales Monitor showed that like-for-like food sales were down 3.1% and non-food sales fell by 0.9%.
