Super-clean smart

IT'S a small number, but two means a lot when it comes to CO2 emissions at smart.

Cutting the crucial exhaust figure by two grams keeps the smart fortwo in pole position as the cleanest car on the road.

Thanks to slight changes to its shape to improve aerodynamics, the latest city model from Mercedes-Benz emits just 86g/km to retain its crown as the most environmentally friendly car driven by an internal combustion engine.

Reducing overall height and improving rolling resistance also helps produce average fuel consumption of 85.6mpg.

'Our customers are proud to drive the vehicle with the lowest consumption in the world and we have been working hard to make our smart models even more environmentally friendly,' said Mercedes-Benz Cars managing director Dermot Kelly.

In spring, customer tests of electric fortwo models will begin in London, the South East and Midlands prior to full introduction in 2012.
