A Mercedes for less than £12,300
DESPITE boasting just about the most prestigious image of any brand in the world, it is now possible to buy a new Mercedes-Benz for under £12,300.
That is for the A150 Classic SE three-door with a trade-in scrappage allowance.
The A-Class range is ideally placed to take advantage of the current financial climate, especially the BlueEfficiency and turbodiesel models with low CO2 emissions and high economy.
The official list price of the 1.5-litre petrol-powered entry model is £14,295, which includes air conditioning, electric windows, CD sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, traction control, electronic stability programme plus side and curtain air bags.
Next up in the Mercedes A-S of motoring is the B-Class, which follows the MPV theme to offer masses of space inside plus an enormous luggage area.
Prices range from £18,449 for the B150 to £22,070 for the B200 CDI with 50mpg economy and 125mph performance.
The C-Class is an impressive junior executive model that competes against rivals from BMW and Audi, with exceptionally high standards of quality and safety plus extremely generous equipment levels.
Prices start at £22,863 for the C180, which offers an impressive combination of 143mph performance and 45mpg economy.
Also included in the line-up are several outstanding diesel versions, including one with 155mph performance in addition to sporty AMG versions capable of scorching to 60mph in just four and a half seconds.
It is a similar story with the larger E-Class family models, which are now regarded as the epitome of engineering excellence and a rock-solid investment because of their high residual values.
The new E-Class coupe version is a stylish head-turner, as are the rakish CL and CLS models.
The extensive Mercedes-Benz range also includes the R-Class sport tourer, the Viano MPV, M-Class and GL-Class 4x4s, SLK, CLK and SL sports models plus the luxurious S-Class saloon that is regarded as arguably the world's finest car.
All models in the comprehensive Mercedes-Benz range are built to the highest possible standards of quality and safety, which makes them a sound long-term investment because they are so sought after on the second-hand market that they retain an unrivalled amount of their original value.
