Italia is new Ferrari stunner
A NEW mid-engined supercar is to be unveiled by Ferrari at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
With an interior said to be inspired by former Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher, the Ferrari 458 Italia has a top speed in excess of 200mph.
Styled as a two-seater with a sleek, low-slung profile, Ferrari says the Italia is a massive leap forward from the company's previous mid-engined sports cars.
It is the first mid-engined Ferrari to feature a direct injection V8 engine which develops an incredible 558bhp from its 4.5-litres.
Top speed is claimed to be 202mph with a 0 to 60 acceleration time of 3.4 seconds.
Advanced brakes give the car plenty of stopping power, coming to rest from more than 60mph in a little more than 100 feet.
With an aluminium chassis the Italia weighs in at around 1.4 tons and although it is more powerful than the current Ferrari 430 it is more economical with an average fuel economy of 20.6mpg and CO2 emissions of 320g/km.
Further details, including prices, will be announced later.
