Stores open late to tempt shoppers

CRIEFF businesses are gearing up to open their doors next Thursday evening for the first late-night shopping event to be held in the strath capital for many years.

The festive shopping extravaganza has been organised by staff in Valentine’s and has met with a very positive response from traders in the town.

Explaining a little of why they decided to arrange the evening, Valentine’s staff member Barbara Duff said: “We wanted to hold a late-night event in the shop but felt that it wouldn’t be right to do it in isolation so we decided to speak to some of our neighbouring businesses to see if they too would be interested in opening late.

“We received a really enthusiastic response and decided to approach all of the shop owners in the town.

“The majority of shops, cafes and restaurants from Comrie Street to King Street and along East High Street, James Square and West High Street have all said they will take part and it looks set to be a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

“Crieff has very traditional opening hours and this will give those who work the opportunity to look round and see the many goods on offer.

“All we need now is the support of the whole community to come out and share in the late-night shopping experience.”

Many of the businesses involved will be running special, one-off promotions as a bonus to customers who shop on the night.

There will also be tasty nibbles and plenty of festive cheer flowing to make the shopping experience both relaxed and welcoming.

The organisers hope that if the event is successful it will become an annual fixture on Crieff’s festive calendar.

All of the businesses taking part in the late-night event on Thursday, December 11, will be open until 8pm.
